Facebook privacy - too little, too late?
Recently Facebook has been all over the media for it's constantly changing levels of privacy. Information which was previously hidden is now being forced to be shared with the entire world.
In the news today:
"Facebook chief executive and founder Mark Zuckerberg has admitted that users find the social network’s controversial privacy controls “too complex”, but has said that the website will move to adjust them so that they are simpler “as soon as possible”."
Even the founder of the website has finally admitted Facebook has gone crazy. Recently I modified my privacy settings to 'lock down' my account. I spent at least 45 minutes trying to find every setting and button to stop Facebook sharing my private and personal information with the world.
Why on earth do people need to see my favourite quotes? All of my friends, and myself included, like to fill this box with anecdotes, bloopers and mis-placed phrases and words people we know have come out with at some point, usually after a beer or two.
If the new privacy settings do not truly give users the control they require to manage their information I believe a large amount of users will begin to de-activate their accounts. Will I? I am not sure, but the pros seem to outweigh the cons right now.
